i start with a shape a simple as a triangle, any size. within this i put a line based idea (usually nonesensical to start) then i use mirrors to get some idea of the symetrical result. at this time i might cross the design with the mirror at various angles in order to seek out a better result. from there on i just peice the same design over and over by hand drawing, checking often with mirrors incase something better crops up. borders are made using the same principle and are often 'leeched' from the field design. when i have time i will upload some scraps which will show better than i can put into words the construction of my designs.
